A Heart for the peaceful GamerThe XBox360 has always had an open mind fort he Hardcore-Gamer, but there has been a new targeted audience in the bull’s eye of the developers and publishers of games: The casual gamer. And we all know that playing Non Shooter Games and Non Violent Games can be a lot of fun, also. In this very field a nice form of Franchise has been noticed. It started with LEGO Star Wars and continued with LEGO Batman and LEGO Indiana Jones. The latter has been especially appreciated by gamers, a well established gamers community ranked the guy with the leather jacked and the wip on place 3. Jump ‘n Run of it’s finest kind. But the first two ranks are taken by two of the Musicgames Genres , from which we have seen quite a few lately. It started with the plastic guitar controller, and Guitar Hero scored real well. But that wasn’t the end. Rock Band started to enjoy the masses, now guitars, mikes and drum sets wanted to be played, as well. Activision followed suit in Guitar Hero: World Tour and this games secured the second place. King of the genres became Rock Band by Electronic Arts, who followed with a sequel in 2008 withRock Band 2 Level up your LifeEpic and well done Role Games are still a scarcity on the MS-Console. But these games are on the go and a few gems have made their way into the Xbox 360 shelves in 2008. Especially when regarding Japano-Role games. Probably the most loved game within the Asian genre was Lost Odyssey, an epic fairy tale about the immortal hero Kaim, on a quest to his long lost memories, thus taking rank 3. It covers a total of four (!) DVDs and runs exclusively on the Xbox 360.The Games-Tale Teller Peter Molyneux has presented one of his highly recommended (by him, that is…) Games. Again exclusively for the Xbox 360 we got the sequel of the famous Xbox-Game Fable. A fairy tale story and with somewhat irritating Sims-Elements are what this game is all about. The fans loved it nevertheless and its not really a bad game, too. Rank 2 for Fable 2.All the way up to number one shot a special title, being number one contestant fort he game of the year: Fallout 3. The adventures of the little Vault-inhabitant, right across the post apocalyptic wastelands of Washington D.C. has made a lot of fans at the end of the year.Sports Games in 2008Now where would the Games World be without great Sports Games? In this genre there were a lot of very good titles we could not include in our little ranking. Position 3 is shared by two games. First of the third round of Top Spin, loved by tennis fans. That also goes for all the American Football Fans with Madden NFL 09, which came across with more innovations in 2008. In Europe, the first two positions went to: 2. Rank: Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 and NHL 09 / NHL 2K9.The winner, with 79% of the votes. was: FIFA 09. But other games of different sports made their appearance in 2008, like NBA Live 09 and NBA 2K9. Even golfers got their share of very good games with Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf 09.Lets look at the “Racers”. Not only the motor sport simulations but arcade-like “pedal to the metal” games went big time last year. These Fun Racers are the most liked ones. Back in 2007 Colin McRae: DIRT went into the charts and did real well. Followed in 2008 by the same team, Race Driver GRID, impressed its fans. Very cool street racings with a hot graphic helped this game to score number 3. A small but very nice game surprised the Xbox 360 Community: Pure. Speeding through the boonies with a Quad, spectacular and acrobatic-tricks with monster-jumps! Pure fun for just about anyone and therefore position 3 in the Racer category. And also in the “Surprises of the Year”!But there’s no end in sight. Developer Criterion has made an impact with the Burnout – series years ago. Part 4 of the series hit the ground running, just like: Burnout Paradise. The mixture of “Open Reality”, breathtaking speed with reckless jumps and a lot of fender benders still holds it’s fans. Maybe another reason is the free updates with worthwhile goodies that are delivered on a timely basis. So, the number one position goes to the Racer-Town “Paradise City”.
Online casinos have been the revolution online with more and more people getting involved in them on a daily basis. There are opportunities to get free money from them to start playing and as someone gets more involved in the online gambling world they may even deposit their own funds in the accounts. There are a variety of different games that people play both at online casinos and in brick and mortar casinos as well.Popular Casino GamesOne of the most famous games that can be played in online casinos is blackjack. It may not be as exciting or fast paced as many other games but it is definitely one of the most popular available and can be found in just about any casino you may visit. Each casino will have their own rules in place and betting limits to give a unique experience every time the game is played.Craps is yet another game that is quite popular in the world of gambling and casinos all over the world. It is not a card game but instead a dice game that even beginners can get acquainted with as they play more and more.Slots are something that people often think of when the term casino comes to mind because it is so widespread and different themes can be present depending on the casino. Many even have a theme and every game in it has been catered to be switched enough to fit into this structure.Slots allow you to place different bets and play as many or as few lines as you wish to give you a customized and totally personal gaming experience that is low stress and offers a chance to win high jackpots.Video poker is a skill based game with a little chance thrown in. This allows many players the opportunity to get their skills improved while also having fun and winning money.Games of Chance and SimplicityRoulette is a fun game to play but is totally based on chance. There is no likelihood that one number is going to come up more often than another. It is a fun game but doesn’t require any skill which is ideal for someone who doesn’t want to have to learn how to play something or just wants to place a bet and see what happens with the chances they are dealt.Keno is yet another game that is totally chance based. Keno is also a game that has been based on the chances you are given so it’s not exactly one that can be manipulated to help you get an upper hand. However, the rules can vary from place to place and this is what makes the game a bit more interesting to play and bet on overall.Beginners may be intimidated by the casino since there are so many games but baccarat is yet another game that is perfect for beginners since all that is needed to be done by the actual gambler is to place that bet and see how it all works out.
Here’s the first thing you can expect to hear when most moms and dads pull out the ol’ Monopoly board for the first time…”Oh no!”
“Do we HAVE to?!”Between video games, cell phones, and our favourite TV shows, it’s not the easiest thing in the world to convince the family that, hey, spending time together can actually be kind of fun! Board games don’t let you blow space aliens to Kingdom Come, they don’t let you download the hottest new music videos, and they don’t come with a fully orchestrated soundtrack but you do have something much more valuable: Human bonding. That’s a novel concept in this day and age, to be sure. The way to see board games is not as a mere entertainment medium. Monopoly, Mindtrap, Clue, they don’t have that instant gratification you’ll find in your Xbox, they don’t attack the synapses without a moment’s hesitation. What they do is they allow for a moment where a group of people sit down together and interact. The whole point of a board game isn’t even the game itself. The whole point of a board game is that it gets four or five people down at the table, joking around, chatting, getting competitive, arguing over the rules, and, well, generally just having fun in one another’s company.Video games, movies, TV, they’re all a form of escapism. That’s not to say they can’t be worthwhile. Simple entertainment can enrich a person’s life in its own way, but all that stuff don’t have the basic human element you’ll witness when you see a family sitting around the dinner table with a deck of cards and an extra large pizza. The importance of bonding with your family can never be stressed enough. There’s no denying it that these days, most families simply don’t spend enough time together. In this economy, you have stay at home parents looking for work, working parents looking for second jobs, teens getting part time gigs after school, the kids at the day care centre most of the week, and the family dog wondering where everyone went. When everyone finally comes home, mom has to balance the budget, dad takes a nap, the teens chat on their cell phones for a few hours, and the kids fight over the Nintendo.Recent studies have shown that most people surveyed have fewer than two close friends whom they feel they would trust with their lives. Nearly half of those surveyed responded that they had literally no true, close friends. It’s no wonder. Kids are growing up in households where everyone is too busy, too distracted, and they never just sit down and waste a couple of hours having fun together. How do you expect them to really understand what human bonding is all about when it wasn’t a major part of their upbringing?Board games don’t have the visceral excitement you get from a shootemup video game, they don’t entertain you on a direct, visual level. A board game would truly be boring to play all by yourself. What a board game does is it gives a family a perfect excuse to sit down and bond. It gives you something to talk about as you debate the finer points of the rulebook and what you can do to sweeten the pot when trying to buy The Boardwalk. So if you want to actually enjoy a board game, have everyone play it and don’t take any excuses. Unplug the phone, turn off the cell phones, switch off the TV, grab a few sodas from the fridge, and keep the conversation going.
